“£75m M25 scheme opens three months early.

3rd September 2007: Transport Minister opens M25 development.

Drivers on the M25 are set to benefit from shorter journey times and improved safety as Transport Minister Tom Harris today opened a £75million project to refurbish and add extra lanes through the Holmesdale Tunnel and junction 25.
The project which has been completed by the Highways Agency three months ahead of schedule, increases the nmbers of lanes through the Holmesdale Tunnel. Up to 450 staff were involved working 1.7 million man hours with no reported construction accidents.
An extra lane has also been added to the eastbound M25 through junction 25 while key tunnel systems, including lighting, ventilation, CCTV monitoring and incident detection systems, have been upgraded.”


PDS are pleased to have been involved with the upgrade to the Tunnel Plant Monitoring Control Systems on this successful project.

Feburary 2007

PDS are to exhibit at Traffex 2007, being held at the NEC between 17th and 19th April 2007. PDS will be demonstrating the MATRICs IP integrated systems demonstration and test facility on stand Z54 during the show.

October 2006

PDS’s SCANLIGHT Lighting Control System demonstration facility is now fully complete and demonstrations are being arranged. SCANLIGHT is a dimmable addressable lighting control system developed by PDS specifically for Road Tunnel applications to economically deliver optimum lighting conditions best matching the Luminance Reduction curve. SCANLIGHT offers performance far exceeding conventional or switched stage systems, with capital and running costs substantially lower than conventional switched systems. September 2006

PDS have been awarded a contract by J. Murphy & Sons Ltd for the SCADA system for the two Lower Lea Valley Cable Tunnels. In a project for the London Development Agency, the tunnels are being constructed for use by National Grid and EDFe, and due for commissioning in 2008.
August 2006

Our move into Olympus House has gone well, and those that have visited us will have seen the new demonstration facilities for MATRICs IP (Integrated IP Systems) and SCANLIGHT (dimmable addressable lighting system) ready for inspection. Following a number of recent project awards and some announcements pending we are again recruiting for engineers - see the recruitment page. Further news follows.

January 2006– Heathrows Airside Road Tunnel wins an award

Heathrow's Airside Road Tunnel has been awarded the British Tunnelling Society’s Project of the Year award. The judges commented “this major project demonstrated all that was best in the UK industry, with a highly complex project being completed under an innovative partnering contract using innovative engineering”.

PDS was pleased to be involved with this project and provided a range of services including our state of the art dimmable addressable lighting control system, as well as the overall control and monitoring system, design consultancy support and overall systems technical coordination functions.

January 2006– Baldock Tunnel Official Opening

The A505 Baldock Bypass (Weston Hills Tunnel) was officially opened by the Local Headmaster on 8 th December, with 5000 local people attending celebrations.

PDS have been working for VVB Engineering Services on the project, with main contractor Norwest Holst acting for Hertfordshire County Council. PDS are responsible for the Fully Integrated Plant, Environment and Traffic systems in the tunnel which is a 230 metre “Cut and Cover”, under the Weston Hills, with two lanes in each direction and cross passage access.

Spring 2006– PDS to move to new prestigious facility - Updated

Following our continued expansion, and as you will have seen if you have visited us recently, our premises at Riverside Court on Pride Park are now becoming cramped. We have now exchanged contracts on a purpose built three storey office facility not too far away from our current address. Our contact numbers and our new address will be circulated as the moving day approaches. Watch this space!

October 2005– Mersey Queensway Emergency Refuges Press Launch

Following the successful Factory Acceptance Test of systems for the Mersey Queensway Tunnel Emergency Refuges, this project has moved into site implementation, testing and commisioning phases, culminating in a recent Press Launch event by Mersey Travel attended by press and tv.
